Step-by-Step: Planning Your Month of Content in 1 Hour

Step 1: Pick Your Content Pillars (10 mins)

Content pillars are the 3–5 themes you talk about regularly that support your business and connect with your audience.

For a children’s activity business, your pillars could be:

  • 👶 Behind the scenes (setting up sessions, prepping crafts, class day fun)
  • 📚 Educational value (child development, sensory play benefits, tips for parents)
  • 💬 Testimonials & feedback
  • 📅 What’s on / class promotions
  • 💛 Real life as a mum in business

✨ Stick to these each month — it keeps you focused and makes content creation a lot faster.

Step 2: Brain Dump Ideas (10 mins)

Now that you’ve got your pillars, set a timer and write down as many post ideas as you can under each one.

Don’t overthink — just jot down anything that comes to mind. Aim for at least 3–4 ideas per pillar.

Example:

Pillar – Educational Value

→ “3 benefits of messy play that might surprise you”

→ “How tummy time links to baby yoga”

→ “Why mark-making is more than just ‘drawing’”

Boom — that’s nearly a week’s worth of content right there!

Step 3: Plot Them on a Calendar (15 mins)

Now grab a blank calendar (or open your content planner) and drop those ideas into specific days.

⚡️ Pro tip: Theme your days to keep it simple!

  • Mondays: Tip or myth-busting
  • Wednesdays: Behind the scenes
  • Fridays: Fun, reels, or personal story
  • Sundays: Promote your classes

You can also build in reminders for key dates like term starts, booking windows, school holidays, or themed weeks (e.g. World Book Day or Mother’s Day prep).

Step 4: Reuse & Repurpose (10 mins)

One post can easily become three:

🎥 Turn a written tip into a talking-to-camera Reel

📲 Turn a testimonial into a graphic for Stories

📧 Use a popular post as the theme for your next email

Your audience needs to hear your message more than once — and repurposing helps you stay consistent without burning out.

Step 5: Batch Your Graphics (15 mins)

Now open Canva and create all your graphics in one go. If you’ve got go-to templates with your colours and logo already set up, this part will fly by.

💡 Tip: Save posts as drafts inside Instagram or pre-schedule using a tool like Meta Planner or Metricool. That way, your content is ready to go — even on your busiest weeks.
